    I just encountered this message when trying to burn an AVI to a DVD+R DL
    "Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal dvd, but still fits on to a DVD-9 disk. you need a dvd-9 media to record your project on." so i inserted my dvd-9 then burnt the dvd and the end result is a 1/3 speed playback of my film. ARGH i'm using a NEC ND3540A DVDRW supporting DL Disks, any suggestions would be greatful.

    below is the buttons i press to set it up

    james

    Make Your Own DVD Video>
    Add Video Files>
    MESSAGE ONE::::
    Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal DVD, but still fits onto a DVD-9 disc. You need a DVD-9 media to record your project on.

    Do you want to have the project quality reduced automatically so that your project will fit into the available space?
    If you click No, the project size will be expanded to DVD-9.
    so i click no

    Next>
    Load my menu>
    Next>
    next at preview then
    Next>

    MESSAGE TWO::::
    "Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal dvd, but still fits on to a DVD-9 disk. you need a dvd-9 media to record your project on."

    When you encountered the message saying:
    Do you want to have the project quality reduced automatically so that your project will fit into the available space? ......
    I think you have to select "yes" to make your video length within the capacity of the project.
    No matter what you did, just look at used space indication bar at the bottom of the content window. The used space can not exceed the capacity limitation.

    Where is the red marker on that capacity indication bar? It is at around 4.5GB?

    It is! Your used space can not exceed this red line. The color of your used space is changed after the red mark? No wonder it shows 8GB on that bar, your used space has exceeded too much. No matter whether you have DL DVD driver, the red mark is the capacity of the DVD disc you can make.

    I too have this problem -- the trouble is that the bar on the bottom is showing the limit for a single layer disk. How do I get it to change to allow for the double layer disk? The Nero software I am using came with the double layer drive. I don't want to reduce the quality of my video to fit a single layer disk, I want to use all of the double layer disk. My video is about 6Gig - it should easily fit the double layer disk.

    Maybe DL driver is for other components of Nero software not for NVE-3. I just had a quick look at overview of NVE-3 on Nero website and its User's Guide, it doesn't mention you can burn DVD video to a DL disc.
    Remember Nero sofeware is sucks!!

    Still working the problem - status update

    I tried to use other parts of Nero software - Nero Express to be exact - and it did not work.

    I did successfully use Nerovision to create DL source files by telling Nerovision to "Write to Hard Disk Folder". I ignored the "you need a DVD-9 disc" messages. The output was correct, I can run the whole thing from the hard disk using Power DVD. Then I tried to use Nero Express to create a disk using DVD-Video Files. Nero Express seemed quite happy to take the files and it said it successfully burned the disk, both layers. But only the first half works. It stops working when I try to access the second layer. So I am assuming it did not record the second layer correctly.

    I just got my DVD drive, so I am now looking to see if it has a problem. I will update if I have anything new.

    Still working the problem - status update #2

    Well, I've got a movie on double layer. Almost.

    I have a Digital Research DVD drive (DDVD16DL). I had been trying to use Memorex DL disks. I could not get the second layer to work.

    I have now tried Verbatim DL disks. The method was the same as the last post ( Nerovision created video files to the hard disk and Nero Express was used to burn the video files to the DVD ). The new Verbatim DVD mostly works. While I can access the second layer now, the disk has a problem at the transition point between layer one and layer two. It seems to work ok on my PC using PowerDVD, but has the lockup when I use my DVD player.

    This success is reported after only one try with the Verbatim disks. I'm going to try to have Nerovison burn a Verbatim disk, but that will take a while on my machine. So, I've listed this update because I am not sure when I will get back to here.

    Final status

    Got a fully working DL DVD using just Nerovision. Talked with the Digital Research people and got from them a firmware update. ( upgraded my DDVD16DL from version A188 to A190 ). Now, the drive really hates Memorex but loves Verbatim. I made a 6.5G DL DVD using only Nerovision and a Verbatim disk and its works ok. I still get the "need to use DVD-9 disk" warnings, I just ignored them.

    haven't fully read this thread, but saw the word second layer and Nero. Nero aparently is no good for Dual Layer burning so maybe try DVD Decrypter to burn, or try out 'imgburn' from the guy who wrote DVD Decrypter.. - i think it's just www.imgburn.com

    Hi I have been having problems with the latest Nerovision 3 express I am using a DVD-R 4.7GB have added my files in the Nerovision 3 express program which is well under 3GB of used space and have had the message:......"Your project currently exceeds the capacity of a normal dvd, but still fits on to a DVD-9 disk. you need a dvd-9 media to record your project on."........ This message will come up now and then. No matter what capacity I apply from 1GB to 2GB or up to 3GB of used space on a 4.7GB TDK DVD-R 16x which I have used for quite a long time with other programs like DVD Decrypter or DVD Shrink and the NEROVISION 2 EXPRESS with no problem so in conclusion I have not been able to finish burning my project onto the disc it will transcode only one menu then I will try different configurations and will transcode about 7 out of 15 video files and just Hang.
