I bought a new laptop(XP Pro) from Tek Serve & received no XP pro cd with it.
The hard drive has no partition & I'm at a loss at what to do if I get a "your files have gone pearshaped please insert your windows cd...etc" or if I want to reformat.
Tek serve have demanded £95 + shipping if I want a cd.
Surely this can't be right & can I function without the OS cd?

no to both but I'll check again - I'm afraid Tek serve won't give me any info whatsoever.
    Thanks

what they said was that they would give me the laptop with XP installed at no extra cost to me which seems a bit like buying a car & getting charged extra for the keys.
What do I do in the event of "please insert your Windows cd..." ?

get Norton Ghost, its good to create a backup of your hard drive and then you can restore the image if things turn fruity <?LOL?>

or what else you could do is complain to Microsoft and see what they have to say...

or you could try a free alternative such as Linux (my favorite even though i use windows) it is good cause its free and can do everything if not more than windows... lots of distro's available :)

Here's my $0.02. Try Acronis True Image to make a backup image of your drive after you have reintalled Win XP and all the programs that you want. Store that image on a partition ( I recommend Acronis Partition Expert) and no matter what happens thereafter your can easily restore your drive. BTW both programs allows you to make bootable disc during their installation.
