My Denon overloads and shuts off as soon as I start to crank the power. My system includes the AVR-3805, Def Tech 2002TL main speakers, Def Tech surrounds, and a Def Tech center. Any help would be appreciated. If the system was installed in a library I would be all set. Thanks
Your Denon shutting off means it's doing it's job. Something is wrong with your setup. Impedance, wiring? You haven't wired the surrounds to the back surround/zone 2 by any chance? If you have, wire them to the surround.
does you receiver have a built in speaker test to verify the wiring is ok? if so, run it to pinpoint the wiring problem. other then that, double check the polarity of each channel, heck, do one at a time to see where it is, possible speaker or channel.
Thanks for the replies, here is a little more info. The BP2002TL's (the front speakers) have 3 seperate connections, high level, mid, and low level. There is a jumper that connects all three and thats the way I have it wired. Also, there is an LFE input on each speaker that I have connected to the subwoofer with a "Y" connecter. Should I take off the jumper and just use either the high mid or low? There is also a connection for Full Range Low Level In that is next to the optional LFE in. WHat are your thoughts? Thanks!!

Thanks mackdl, I'm still searching. I removed the jumper from the low and now have just the mid and high along with the LFE in. Still no luck. The impediance, according to the Def Tech manual states 4-8 ohms. Still at a loss. I'm going to change the "type" of speakers on the receiver and see if that makes a difference. No speaker test that I know of with the avr-3805 (excet for a placement test)
it should, i mean it makes my yammy rx-v1500 look like pond scum compared to yours, and mine has speaker testing abilities. btw, what did you pay for that puppy? it is not THX cert or select either, no HDMI... retails for $1199.00(so it says here) http://www.hometheatermag.com/receivers/804denon/index1.html also, i'd set your speaker to 8ohms to test and start with.... dont drop the ohms, till you know what your problem is and fix it. my yammy will let me do 6 & 8 ohm, but my speakers drop to 4 ohm... but all mine are run at 8 ohms.
samchip - it's been YEARS since I set up my Denon. You basically set it up and leave it that way. Run tests now and then. I picked up a used diagnostic tool dvd "The Ultimate Dvd". Unless one does this for a living it can be pretty daunting...that's why I gave you the link. These are people who have your speakers. Speaker size should be "small" as you want bass from subwoofer. I know it sounds odd. Sorry I'm not much help.
Well, I found the problem. Its a bad front speaker. I disconected all the speakers and tried them one a a time with a new cable and one of the front speakers shuts down the system as soon as the volume is turned up. I tried both fronts on both channels and am sure its the speaker.
glad you found the problem....... i knew it was possibly the speaker. do you have warranty on the speakers? if so, return it. but again, glad you found the problem.
