Combo drive on laptop doesn't read some blank CD-R

    i have a sony vaio PCG-K45 it has a QSI DVD/CDRW combo drive, it doesn't read blank CD-R from Sony and it can sometime read Memorex sommetime doesn't. Can anybody help me with that, does it have anything to do with the firmware. the weir thing is this drive read TDK blank CD-R really good.
