my college recently changed the networking in the dorms, so that we can't play Halo 2 (or any game for that matter) dorm to dorm via system link. After countless people complained, it was revealed that we could continue to play dorm to dorm if we knew the IP Address of the person hosting the game and configured our network settings accordingly. Meaning that if I can get somebody in another dorm to host a game, I can sit my network settings to his IP Address then I can connect to his console. The problem is I can't figure out a few things: 1) how this even works 2) "his" IP Address (the guy doesn't know his either) / how to determine it 3) where i put this information on my xbox (is it a gateway, or subnet, or what?) and anything else I'm forgetting. if somebody knows how to get this to work, I'd really appreciate it. Thanx.
well you can get ur IP address here: www.myip.com and if you are hooked up to a community dorm router, then it should be wireless and you should have to go to your computer, and enter your and his ip addresses in the network folder control panel>Wireless Network Setup then you want to make your own wireless network, click manually assign a network key, enter a network name (SSID, click next, enter a 5 LETTER network key (it MUST BE 5 letters), next, set up a network manually, print network settings this should open up notepad, which you should go file>print and print them off. then give them to your dormmates and tell them to enter the same things. (or you can sacrifice $60 a year and get an xbox live account, which would make everything easier.) but yea, if this doesnt work, then i dont know what will hope it helps
