    Hi danny2004,

    A few programs to consider:

dvd decrypter (freeware)- can rip the dvd to your HD then burn to blank dvd/ AD software tab

dvd shrink (freeware)- used after ripping files with dvd decrypter to shrink to fit on a single layer dvd (ideal size is around 4.3g)/ AD software tab

dvdfab decrypter (freeware version)- since dvd decrypter is no longer updater this program is essentially on the way to replacing it for the newer movies. *remember use the freeware edition/ AD software tab

anydvd/ clonedvd2 (21 day trial)- anydvd is a copy bypass software that circumvents the latest copy protection..usually updated as newer movies come out with 'upgraded copyright protection'. Lifetime updates. Clonedvd2 has the ability to burn files (vob compliant) to a blank dvd, re-author to remove unwanted trailers, languages, etc, and will compress(works best with movie only in my opinion) to fit to dvd. The combo is excellent and around 50 dollars if you choose to buy them. Clonedvd2 has 1 year of free updates *once you purchase it I have yet to have to renew./ checkout their website at www.slysoft.com and search for reviews here on AD

Nero (trial)- alot of functions nicely packaged, kind of heavy on pc resources but is updated often for bug fixes./ goto nero homepage to review it.

i would go with the freeware first as for what you are looking for they will for the most part do. Also I highly recommend purchasing anydvd as it will help you with backing up the newer movies. Overall there are many more but for someone just starting out try the AD favorites (freeware i mentioned). Oh ad stay away from memorex dvds for recording they usually code as cmc mag and are crap.

For guides on the uses of the above mentioned software use the guides tab at the top of the page and see the 1st link in my signature. For blank media recommendations/ preferences see the 2nd link. Hope this was helpful to you.

    danny,

Matt Really said it ALL! You can also try DVD43(free) as you are starting out. It runs in the background so you can let it run while it goes through Shrink and if you have Nero, it will work with SHRINKS program to burn directly to disk if you choose.
