i'll just attack log6 for know....

    - 'fraid that's out of the bible, update to latest, 6.6.0.16

    - firmware is out of date, 1.22 is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2140

    - that's ok, that question mark just means the atapi drivers aren't loaded correctly (in your case they are fine) or it means the burner's external or whatever..which we know it is...

    - yup, Nero's too old to recognise your burner

    - i've quoted this as some of the logs show the free memory dropping too low. make sure you close down more programs prior to every burn.

    - that sounds a tad too close to the outer edge of discs, just gonna go and check something...

edit- yup, see this example - the "(507:59.58)" means you're burning to outer edge of discs, when you update Nero this paragraph is more legible as it's shown in Megabytes, see this example -
    - 4465MB is far too close to outer edge of discs. If you used DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences, thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space.

    - presuming they're authentic these G05's are very good discs. I only say that as there as some fake G05's out there... we can worry about that later, let's get all the tweaks done for now..

    - lots of all these errors thru the log. i'm making a real guess here, but all these errors look suspiciously like the burner isn't getting enough data. i've just checked and your laptop does have USB2; hmmmm, well you need to make various tweaks as i've detailed above but i'm not sure those will solve these errors as out of many thousand logfiles i've not once come across these particular errors. Tell you what, make ALL the changes i've outlined, then run a 'simulation burn' in Nero, which goes thru the motions with a blank disc but doesn't wwrite to it, and generates a juicy section of logfile. Paste that here and we'll go from there....

    - splat!

Hi Creaky. Thanks for your help and support and sorry for the late reply, but I've been very busy. I have yet to make the changes you advised concerning nero/firmware/shrink settings etc. As soon as I have, I will send you a few simulation logs and we can go from there. Thanks again for your help, and I'll speak to you soon. Thanks. kwamesead.

i've been having the 'invalid block address' this evening on one of my new LG burners. it was mounted internally and reads from discs fine/rips fine, but every time i feed it a Verb TY and try to burn 8x it fails at lead-in with 'invalid block address' (i never do 8x but was seeing what results i'd get at 8x). a 4x write on very same disc was fine. a few times got the same results. as drive is gonna be sent back for swap anyway now as i don't trust it, hooked it up in a USB2 enclosure, same results. the other LG drive lives in a USB2 enclosure, switched that on, and it's been burnig at 8x sweetly all eve. so one burner's faulty and it would appear that i can now burn at the elusive 8x....

...just in case that helps anyone...

Been following this thread but I haven't been able to get my DVD burner working yet. I've a Pacific Digital Mach 16 internal; bought an external case and am running a USB2.0 back through to my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with 512 Ram. I am using Nero 6.6 and have been getting "Invalid Block Address" when I try to run. Here is the logfile of a simulated burn at 8x. Note that I have also tried another brand of DVDR with poor results, and speed tests suggest that 11.x is the fastest I can run. I have also upgraded the firmware to G7V9. I see online that the DMA may need to be changed... Please provide any help you can!

Thanks. I've changed the settings following the FAQ; I'll give it a whirl at 4x. I am wondering if I have the jumpers set correctly, too. The DVDR is set as slave, and the cabling I used has only 2 connections... I should tackle one problem at a time...

Argh. Failed again. The log is below. At least the DMA is set up correctly. Any suggestions?

    @Lunchcake -

cheers - you provided a vital nugget of info there -
    - devices in USB enclosures must be set to Master ONLY.... - that could be all that's left to get working again...

    - still try to improve on the free memory too...

Ah, the rub being that now I've set the DVDR to slave, the computer doesn't startup at all - it just goes to the flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner. Is there a place in the bios where I change things and tell the computer what's up? What about cable select?

I also recently installed Nero 7.x to see if that did the trick to no avail. It said: device not available. other notes - SCSIStatus (x00) WinError (121) NeroError (-600).

    Thanks.

just change jumper to Master (we are talking about the burner in the USB enclosure, yes ??)

Thanks for your help. I am not sure why the DVDR isn't allowing the computer to boot when set as Master. Interestingly, I've an external Maxtor 160GB HD that is set at CS - but without a CS cable, which i think makes it a Master, too. Anyway, that thing works fine. Perhaps it is the Myson chipset in the enclosure. I think I'll stop by OD on the way home and pick up a fancy enclosure - if they have them - and see if it works. Argh.

try setting the hrd drive in the other enclosure to Master, multiple enclosures can all be master. that cable select has it's place in certain pc's - but i've never got on with it. i've only ever come across it in 'corporate' type pc's, ie compaq, dell etc, but any of them i've got my hands on i change to normal master/slave arrangement..

Again, thanks for your assistance in this thread-stealing escapade. Turns out the Myson chipset sucked it. I scored an expensive enclosure from CC and it worked excellently. Therefore: BenQ 1620 dvdr drives generally don't work with Myson chipsets, which was what was in the Creative I/O enclosure I bought.

On to the next computer problem - Motorola Phone Tools.

    Cheers ;)

This is message ofr Creaky. I have made all the changes you outlined concerning hardware/ software configurations. Instead of getting invalid block address/ scsi command aborted, I am getting reset occured. This happens even when I am buring audio cds that use little memory. Is there a conflict between my ASPI drivers? As i have updated them and still the same problems. Since I started using this burner computer combo,i GET 2 good burns then a fail.I look foward to your response, and thank you in advance for any support you can give. Kwamesead:

hi, sorry been real busy last couple days..

turns out you got me again anyway :)

you posted your entire Nero log, no biggies, i pulled out a section and dissected it.. here goes....

    - not too bad, 6.6.0.18 is latest 6.x version, however your burner isn't detected, see comment after next comment

    - firmware's still current, just checked, no newer version out yet

    - yup, Nero's too old to recognise your burner, update to 6.6.0.18 from here - (just Update package 1) - http://www.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php

    - DMA needs to be ON for that Philips drive, fix via this - http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/FAQ.htm

    - i've quoted this as some of the logs show the free memory dropping too low. make sure you close down more programs prior to every burn.

    - 4465MB is burning too close to outer edge of discs. If you use DVD Shrink, set target size to 4300MB in Shrink's preferences thus avoiding outer edge and not sacrificing much space

    - very nice discs..

    - these messages are fine, Pioneer drives do this, dunno why, but it's ok..

    - splat!, this is hopefully just due to all the other problems...

    - try 4x

    - the ATAPI drivers are supposed to be listed in this section, this will be sorted by following the DMA fix further up the reply..
