what media do you have and whats the model number of the burner. are you sure the burner is capable of re writing? firmware up to date on the burner? latest version of nero?
need a tad bit more info and what it is that you are doing so i can get you in the right direction..

a lot of sony burners are re-badged lite ons and viceversa.
try this link, as you may need to update your firmware too, and i dont think that media you are using is very good stuff. are you able to ID your media? you can with nero, under the tools tab. ID it and post it back to see what it codes out as.
here is a few links to help

you may be able to cross flash your burner to a newer one. but will void all warranty, and if not done right, will fry it too. follow the directions carefully.

Uninstall nero using nero's cleantool utility. It will completely remove all remnants of nero off your pc. You can get it here:

    http://ww2.nero.com/us/Nero_6_Clean_Tool.html

When you download nero again, leave out the INCD packet. This packet will screw up dvd burning and should not be downloaded.I even leave out nero showtime player.

I had the exact same issue after updating my nero. Using nero cleantools and reloading it took care of it.I just leave my nero at 6.0.0.21b oem and all is well.

After I cleaned out nero off my hard drive, I downloaded my oem disc of nero 6.0.0.21b and only downloaded the nerovision express2 se,and nothing else. I left out showtime player and INCD4 packets. I don't need them. I mainly backup original dvds and original cds.

After the first time I downloaded all the updates, except INCD, that's when I could not erase my +rws. I had to use my spare pc to erase them. No problems in the last 6 months on my pc after removing nero and re-installing my original oem disc!

I also have nero6.3 oem on my backup machine, and she burns sweet despite the very slow pc specs.

It should erase cd-rw.I have a few cd-rws,but nothing that I can erase yet.Mainly dvd-/+ rw.

Use the nero cleantool link i posted earlier, then re-load nero back onto your pc and see if it takes care of it.

i was doing similar to saugmon for ages - in my case i religiously stuck to my old version - 6.6.0.0 as i all i use Nero for is to burn normal audio & data cd's, and DVD burning is a no-brainer as all movies are prepared with DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter so the dvd video aspect of Nero works fine in the older versions.

One of the clues to look for if Nero is either out of date or not quite new enough is when you see this in the logfile -
I myself only updated from 6.6.0.0 for the sake of it one day, it had worked flawlessly. If you only use Nero in a similar fashion its ok to stay 'out of date' but if use it more i would say update it.
