I need help because I use Nero Express and need to know how to copy or clone a disk. I have one DVD/CD drive. How do I copy and burn an movie to a DVD? I don't understand stuff it ask for like path etc.

I've tried and the drive ask for an empty DVD. I put one in the drive and it is always rejected. What can I do, or what am I doing wrong?

More information would be helpful on what your trying to do and what error messages you are getting.

What disc you trying to copy?
what movie are you trying to copy?
what steps are you doing to try to get this done?
Where did the movie come from?

Your question is not very informative and it makes it kind of hard to help if you dont explane yourself that good.

Is your DVD/CD a RW drive? You need a writer to write.

I'm trying to copy a Sony DVD+R. I'm new to this and have no idea what I'm doing!
I'm trying to copy a movie called "The Apple Duplin Gang". I want a backup of it. Our children love it. But that's not my problem. My DVD burner keeps saying, after I put in the empty DVD, "no DVD is found, put in a empty DVD."

I follow the instructions of Nero Express. I only have one DVD/CD player/burner, I dont' know what a write to write is. I try to copy/clone the movie to the hard drive and copy it from there to a empty DVD. The DVD's I have are 4.7 GB's. The biggest thing is I really don't know what I'm doing. I can't understand files, and all the other lingo I can't think of all the lingo used now. I have Nero 6 coming. It will not be the express. I need all the nelp you can give me. Please stay with me.

    Thank you!

The movie came from Wal-Mart. All movies I get work, or play great!

Make sure the DVD/CD drive you have will burn DVD media. You could have a drive that plays DVD but only burns CD-RW. I have both types in my computer. 1 of my drives burn both DVD and CD but the other is just a DVD-ROM reader and burns only CD-RW.

If it does burn DVDs then make sure you do the following below.

Make sure the blank Disc your using are the right format for your DVD Burrner. If you have a DVD+R burrner you need DVD+R blank media for it. If your trying to use DVD-R blank media in the drive and it dosent suport the DVD-R media it wint recognize it.

So find out what specs your DVD burrner is. If it usses DVD-R or DVD+R it could even dbe compatible with both.

So first off make sure you have the correct DVD blank media format for your drive.

Also just for your information you cant just rip the movie from an origanel DVD and burn it to a blank DVD. You have to run a program that will take out the copy protection from the DVD.

Programs like DVD Decrypter/AnyDVD etc etc

You will more than likely need to run the original disc through dvd decrypter and/or dvd shrink to break css encryption and compress to fit on a dvd5. Guides are in my sig. Give us the model of your dvdrw drive so we can verify it will burn dvd's both + and - formats.

I'll find out about my DVD/CD burner. I will find our all information. I'll get back as soon as I find out.

All I have now is DVD+R media.

What about the format, I don't understand! What do I need to do or know?

I only have one drive and it is suppose to burn both. I'll find out the information about my DVD and get back to you. If everything works, then I still don't understand how I get a movie moved from the sorce DVD to a blank or target DVD, with only one drive. I guess that needs to be addressed after I find out what I have and what it can do.

I have Nero version 6 coming. What is your opinion about Nero V.6? Will it be a help to me with some of the stuff I don't have. After reading different things, it sounds like I don't have all that I need to burn a disk. I thought Nero v.6 would be a great help to me.

    Thanks! tsh

Alright first off there are diffrent types of Disc format on DVD media. You have DVD Burners that burn DVD-R media and Burners that burn DVD+R media and some burners burn both DVD-/+R Media.

DVD-R burners cant use DVD+R media
DVD+R burners cant use DVD-R media
DVD-/+R burners can use both - and + DVD media

    That is the diffrent formats.

Now when you burn DVD to disc there are diffrent size DVD disc.
DVD5 disc size=4.7G of information (1 layers burnt on 1 side)
DVD9 disc size=8.5G of information (2 layers burnt on 1 side)

If you have a DVD5 you can copy stright of the disc and onto a single layer DVD blank disc.

If you have a DVD9 disc you need to have a program to recode(compress) (Example:DVD Shrink, Recode2, DVDFab} the information down so it will fit on a single layer disc
    Or
If you have a double layer disc burner you could just burn the DVD stright from the source disc onto a double layer disc without recoding.

Most all comercial DVD movies have some sort of copy protection on it. So you will need a program to take off the copy protection. Example: (DVD Decrypter, AnyDVD)

If you use DVD Decrypter you can rip the movie to your hard drive either in an image or file mode which will rip all folders and IFO and VOB files.

You really need to search and read more on how to do all this stuff there are plenty of guides in the Guides section of the forum. All you need to do is click on the guides tab at the top of the forum to have step by step guide how to do stuff.

Also most of the programs you need you can download off the site if you click on the software tab at the top of the page.

    Hope this helps.

Nero is good software and can be used as the burn engine for many aplications including dvd shrink. Download dvd decrypter and dvd shrink by clicking on these programs in blue letters. That will take you to the download page. Then read over the guides in my sig to familiarize yourself with these programs and get them set up. In the meantime while you're waiting for nero you can use dvd decrypter to burn your iso's. The guides will show you how. Just curious, what version of nero did you order, example nero 6 oem suite 1, 2 or 3 or nero 6 ultra?

Did you not read what both me and Mort81 said?

Mort81 told you that nero was good. We both said to go to each of the programs we sugested and read up on how to use them. You need to help yourself here and do a little reading.

What DVD brand and model# is you DVD/CD drive?

    Hi

I found out about my DVD burner. There isn't one. That make me feel stupid! I only have a CD burner and reader. I also have a DVD reader.

Does anyone know where I can get a good inexpensive DVD writer? It will have to have one that is copable with my Gateway computer.

Does anyone have trouble signing in? I have trouble! I can't type anything in the ID and Password boxes.
Without anything in the ID and password boxes I click the submit or okay button. It brings up the same screen and then I'm able to type my ID and password. Is there anything I can do to just sign in?

Everyone...I'm having a terrible time with Herman St. software. I got their software before I found out that they would not refund my return to credit my credit card. Be careful when and/or if you deal with them. They WILL NOT refund your purchase. In my case, not even if you can't use it.

See, I bought Clone II from them thinking I had a DVD burner. I don't and they WILL NOT credit my credit card. I wanted to use the money I paid for the software to go towards a DVD writer.

    BEWARE OF THEM!!!

I don't know of any company that will refund your money on opened or downloaded software? Or DVD movies and CD's for thet matter and the reason would be because everyone would buy it then copy it and return it. So there practice of not refunding your money isn't uncommon at all. Just chalk it up as a hard lesson learned.

Also do yourself a favor and read through the thread in my signature called Newbies you will better understand the whole DVD back up process after reading that thread. It was put together by a lot of the senior members here at AD and has a lot of usefull information.

    Cheers
