In a direct side by side comparison between my digital camcorder tapes and my finished DVDs, I notice the color on the DVD is noticably washed out. A friend of mine suggested I might need a better capture card. I am currently using only a basic Belkin iEEE card (purchased for about $40 from CompUSA). Can anyone shed any light on this? THANKS!

There is no need to buy another card: capturing through IEEE1394 (Firewire) is a direct digital transfer. It certainly will not influence quality, either in color or anything else.
The main suspect here is the encoder that you use to create the MPEG-2 required for DVD.
