I have an LG HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B that came with my sony vaio and also a dvd rewriter drive which i use most of the time. i know my HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8162B was working properly as i have used it a few times before to either watch dvd or play games but just recently i have noticed it will not read any disks at all it makes a really unhealthy sound as the disks is spinning and i cant understnad why it suddnely does not work? has any 1 had a simmler problem? or know a solution PLEASE HELP!!!! Thanx!
IT'S BURNT.......... Mine did the same thing. it wouldn't even recognize that a disk was in the f: drive. I got on the phone with Sony reps and gave them the same stuff that you posted and they told me it was burnt!!
thanx for the reply! yeah im pretty sure thats wot is wots wrong with it im just gonna buy a new dvd rom drive. You got any ideas on a decent DVD ROM drive i dont need a rewrite or anything just dvd rom?
NO NOT RIGHT NOW. I'M IN THE SAME POSITION YOU ARE. I'M LOOKING NOW TO SEE WHAT IS COMPATIBLE WITH MY BURNER. I MAY NOT EVEN GUESS 'CAUSE I DON'T WANT MESS MY SYS UP. I MIGHT TAKE IT SOMEWHERE AND SAY FIX IT AND GUARENTEE IT FOR A YEAR, THAT WAY I HAVE NO WORRIES. SEE MY SYS IS USED AS A MUSIC PRODUCTION FACILITY AND I CAN'T AFFORD TO SCREW THINGS UP BY COMPATIBLILTY PROBLEMS OR HOOK UP ISSUES, BUT I'M STILL GONNA LOOK INTO DRIVES AND I'LL LET YOU KNOW IF I COME UPON ANYTHING.....DO THE SAME IF YOU COULD.
Yeah of course m8 ill keep a look at too i was thinking on going for a straight swap for another LG but not the same model a better 1 that why it should pratically just work when u put it in and the firmware and stuff should be the same because its same brand? or i wanted to get a sony model still thinking about it tho.
Hey, I have a vgc-ra718g. I'm going to call Sony and ask them the requirements for DVD-ROM (the specs) so nothing..right! And get what they recommend. JB
I have Sony Vaio with the LG HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR8136B. It plays DVDs but not CDs (neither store bought originals or CD-R. Music or Game = nodiference, doesn't play either). How do you open the case of these fancy Vaio computers that are open in the middle for some special cooling system? The Optical drives are in the top portion of the case.
I FIXED MY DVD ROM DRIVE BUY ORDERING THE EXACT DRIVE THAT CAME WITH THE LATTER MENTIONED DVD ROM DRIVE (FROM THE RA718G). THEY CHARGE $103.00 FOR THAT DRIVE + SHIPPING. QUITE A BIT WHEN YOU CAN GET A NON-OEM FOR 30-60 BUCKS. I DO HAVE A DEAl FOR SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO REPLACE THEIR DVD ROM WITH THE SONY OEM DRIVE THAT WORKED PERFECT FOR ME. I BOUGHT TWO AND WILL LET THE SECOND ONE GO FOR $55.00. BRAND NEW IN THE BOX. MY EMAIL IS zigzag.brown@verizon.net. FIRST COME FIRST FIRST TO SAVE.
Newegg.com has best deals; but how do you open that fancy case that is open in the middle on Sony Vaio?
