Why this thing is no more? http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/3414.cfm When I read this old funny thread http://keskustelu.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/14656 I was woundering that why here is nothing like that anymore? - Hot programs - Hot MP3s - Top forum users (users top list we do not need because then we would have more spammers, but you get my poin) Maybe some1 who has been here longer can tell it to me. So why it is no more?
There are two main reasons for it: 1) People are sheep in some ways -- particularly "top lists" have the effect on directing what people download, thus eroding the possibilities for new tools to get into charts or at least making it extremely difficult. 2) Sometimes tools' URLs change or they get removed and its a pain in the a*se to go through the old news to edit the links accordingly.
I have 3 questions for you dRD. 1) What year did Afterdawn start? 2) How many mods and admins are there in total and what are there names? 3) Who's the person below you authority wise?
[bold]1.[/bold] Year 2001 (or not, I found old post from that year) [bold]2.[/bold] [bold]3.[/bold] Now it is dRD`s turn...
nrautava: 1) Wrong. 2) Slightly wrong. Correct answers: 1) June, 1999. 2) English forum mods: jnihil A_Klingon Pio2001 loaded HomerJ herbsman VCDjunkie aldaco12 vurbal Oner darthnip Shoey Nephilim tigre Praetor flip218 (in order of their joining dates to the aD as newbies, oldest first) Finnish forum moderators (some of them occassionally visit English forums as well): Khauron petrau chopper Jake mika jannejt pkaksp Our DVD X Copy forum mods: ireland whompus Jaybo dpsmith baldbear 3) Ketola is the 2nd in command. And in addition to nrautava's list, Dela is our news writer in English site nowadays (thus, not in mod list).
The current format of forums wasn't launched until 2001, before that, in AfterDawn v1, we had quite different forum system ("tree-view" forum). I think we had about 20 posts in our forums when we scrapped the old system and launched our "v2" layout (those of you who've been using our site before December, 2003, probably remember the constant complains about "pink"..). In v1 we had various weird sections, like MP3s from indie artists (nowadays in MP3Lizard.com), TV schedules for Finnish TV channels, WinAMP skins, etc. Best way to check what happened on our site in old days is to look into our news archive. Back then, until 2001, we didn't have any real ways for users to participate to our site -- no news commentary option existed until 2002 or so, nobody used forums, software reviews weren't added until 2004, etc.
