So, I just bought a used Onkyo TX SV-717 6.1 channel receiver and I'm trying to connect three Bose cube speakers with a subwoofer. My problem started when I noticed the woofer cable didn't have an obvious place to connect to the receiver. It's got one large 8-pin plug on the woofer side and two standard A/V connections (red and white plugs) with a smaller connection that looks like an old headphone plug for your walkman. The triple connection goes into the receiver, I just didn't see where. So, I clipped the Bose plugs from the speaker wire where it is supposed to plug into the woofer. I did this so I could run the speakers direct to the Main, R and L outputs on the receiver. When I do this only one speaker puts out sound. The receiver has center channel connections followed by rear speakers, main speakers, and remote speakers-so I can run a surroud sound system directly plus remote speakers. But I'm just trying to use two speakers on the main outputs. My preference would be to get some help setting this sytem up for surround sound. But at the moment all I want is to make sure the receiver outputs are all working. Any help? I have included a link to the manual for my TV in case someone can help with the surround issue (I have not even tried to connect the TV to the receiver yet- the speakers are giving me enough trouble ATM). from what i have seen with the bose speakersystem, its designed to all run through that main cable. if you cut them, you have now lost its ability to play, as they run through on that cable. not 100% sure, but i think i am correct on it. your better off slapping up some polks to that receiver....
