I am a new owner of a memorex DVD burner, so pardon me if at times I am not so sure what I am talking about... My question is...can I burn my .avi files to a DVD+R without having to wait 20 or so hours for these converters I have been downloading? Possible solutions that I have found but am not sure would work include burning a Data DVD disk with the .avi file on it. If I do so, can that be played by any DVD player outside of the computer? Matt, hows it going. You need to give us more info. What are your pc stats? we know the type of media you use ,but what of the brand? THere are a few encoders which are recommended like vso divx to dvd, or mainconcept mpeg encoder, but with out your stats its hard to give you a definitive answer as to which one i would recommend to you. Also your avi's need to be converted to mpeg2 before you can burn them to disc and then play them in a standalone dvd player.
Personally i use Nero Vision Express 3. you can get a trial from Nero's Homepage. its really simple to use. just load up the avi. set it to not have a menu created using NVE. and convert. takes about LengthOfMovie+TimeToBurn(depends on speed you burn at) For example: I use a Lite-On DVD burner with FujiFilm media and burn at 4x so it takes me around 2 to 2 1/2 hours to convert and burn. and so far each conversion has been flawless.

Then you will just need to burn those .AVI as DATA and play them on your new DVD Player !
you can burn avi's straight to disk,but it depends whether your dvd player reads them converting avi 2 dvd will take hr's if you have a low spec pc,mine take an average of 1 hr,but for a low spec pc,i.e 1.2 ghz with low ram...up to 24 hrs!!!! the fastest thing to use is dvd santa,but the quality sucks... it all depends on what your looking for

How do i check for my PC spec ? My PC currently has 256 MB...how long would that take? (im planning to upgrade to 512 MB very soon)
