hi everyone i have a few dvd +rw's that always return verify errors when writing with nero6; running a diagnostic check with dvd speed revealed certain sectors unreadable (even after cleaning and full format). My question is, is it possible with software to switch off the bad sectors like one can with hard drives? and leave the good part of the disk free for writing thanks luigi
no reply tells me im asking the wrong question as in it aint poss, on such a busy forum someone would have told me you can save old dvd rw's luigi
what we should be doing is addressing the problem at source, ie let's see if we can stop you from having errors in the first place... ...let's have LAST section of your Nero log which lives in c:\program files\ahead\nero\nerohistory.log but DO NOT post your serial number which usually begins with '1A21' or similar. You can differentiate sections via this section divider "====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======"
thank you creaky for replying, here is my log of the last session with serial omitted... ====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ====== Windows XP 5.1 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.57 (1008), size=48128 bytes, created 23/12/1997 01:23:24 ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.59, size=160016 bytes, created 16/12/2003 19:18:06 Nero version: 6.3.1.6 Recorder: <DVDRW IDE1004> Version: 0043 - HA 0 TA 2 - 6.3.1.6 Adapter driver: <nvatabus> HA 0 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ? luigi43 error's below 1.Nero version: 6.3.1.6 Update Nero as you are a few version behind 2.=== Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 2B020H1 nvatabus Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off DiskPeripheral : Maxtor 6Y160P0 nvatabus Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off CdRomPeripheral : DVDRW IDE1004 nvatabus Port 0 ID 2 DMA: Off You saw that You need to have DMA enabled 3.Recorder needs eject between burn and verify. Auto reload. (Medium in drive: Unknown. Medium required by compilation: DVD.) It evidently does not like the RW you put in Can you give us a Name Brand and model # of the burner as the log shows DVDRW IDE1004
luigi43 Did a little more research and this drive sometimes shows up as a CDrom and then it does not work as a DVD burner. It is an issue between the burner and the OS. Suggest that you call the computer manuf and see what patch they can offer to correct this. I googled this" DVDRW IDE1004 " and that is what was there along w/ other problems
@luigi43 In addition to what Car.Mike had mentioned. You need to completely wipe out Nero from your system by using Nero's General Clean Tool. ((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" your DVD burner or DVD rom driver “for Win XP users”)) A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES" B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER" C) left click on +sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner’s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!! NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers” (A) left click on + sign of IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers (B) double left click on either Primary or Secondary IDE Channel (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer and Windows should detect your driver and reinstall it for you automatically. That's it... easy as smoking!!! NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel. Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka "Primary IDE Channel" already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps. NOTE: To verify your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers with Nero: Open up "StartSmart", click on "Nero Toolkit", then click on "Nero InfoTool" (InfoTool will run and retrieve all drivers), now click on "Configuration" - this should show you where your DVD Burner/DVD-ROM is installed under what Channel, usually is "Secondary" <--- make good note of that and you're ready to "uninstall" your dvd burner/dvd-rom drivers now.
car.mike - the label on top of the burner says: Model Number DVDRWIDE1004 Manufactured by TOP-G Made in China i need to go work now, will try out suggestions when i get back, thanks for your input people, really appreciate it luigi
luigi43, You are still probably going to have to get the burner back to where it was bought or call them and see if there is a patch for that burner. When you punch in the model# and brand Google bring up about 4 different foreign languages that I do not read and even if I translate the page something is missing in the translation
