   ok im still confused on wat divx video is , is it a avi file or is it just the codec that enables it to play it??

   DivX is both a container (based on avi) and a video codec. The codec can however be used in other containers so you can have for instance a DivX avi, DivX mkv, DivX ogm, DivX mp4, etc.
