Ok technically this is not a mod. I just replaced an old Thomson with the same thing, only new. I got this xbox really cheap. Version 1 everything stock. Holy crap. I mean the rip time is now 11 minutes what used to be 2 hours. NO errors. If I ripped with a drive that gets disk read errors, it might not screw up when just reading a disks data, right? WRONG. If you get disk read errors on fresh copies, it might be that your dvd drive didn't read them right to start with. I mean if there isn't a scratch on the copy. Anyway, So far i've only tested with xbox games, and dvd+r but I will post again after testing some cd+r cd+rw,and dvd-r. This thomson is the shiznit! (compared to the old thomson)
technically if you use your xbox disk drive for 2years and for long hours using burnt dvds then chances are that it will wear out nothing last for ever these days(i should new been though 4xbox controls and 2diskmans in 3months).if you used a cd cleaning disk on a regular basis it might of helped your dvd drive.
It's just that from what I've read here, the Thomson was supposed to be an inferior drive, and may be, because it recognizes a cd-rw game in evox but won't load it. It works great with dvd+ and dvd-.
Ebay. Do a search for xbox dvd drive. Including shipping expect to pay at least $25. I got mine for $27. $19 + $8 S+H.
