I noticed some of my burns on decrypter are up to 6x and I would like to keep it to 4x as I have been reading that that seems to be the safest burn speed. I see in Decrypter there is a setting under the device tab to set the read speed but I cannot seem to find one for the burn speed. Any help would be appreciated.

Just bring up your drive and you can see the selection in the lower right hand corner for write speed.

You can't do just any speed. I have a lite-on 1693S and if I go under 6x it'll say burn failed.

That is possibly your drive or the disks, I have a Lite-on 1633S and it has never had a problem with the 4x setting nor have any of my other drives.

Well that's what I meant. It might just be swappo's drive. I have use Verbs and TY all + all 8x. But none have been able to go under 6x. firmware up to date. Any suggestions? I'm hoping future firmware updates will eventually correct this prob.

Does sound like a firmware problem, but as long as you are using good media 6x should be alright. I burn at 6x on my Plextor all the time and all the burns come out excellent. In fact I think the Plexie likes the higher speed better than the lower, except for dual layer.

I'm not complaning cause I get great burns with 6x too. not a coaster yet. It's just that i'm a little anal/paranoid whatever you want to call it so I'd like to burn at 1x if possible or anything below 6x. And I just updated my firmware about a week ago when the new firmware came out.
