problem with rear speaker connection

    i have a sony reciever ,the surround sound rear speaker connection does not work anymore. the speakers work fine but i cant any sound out when I put the speaker wire into the rear speaker terminal behind the reciever. anyone have any ideas?

    are your dvd's encoded in multi-channel sound? no sound will be output if not. surround is only used when multi-channel is detected.
    is the receiver set up to do multi channel as well, meaning, its not set for 2 channel?
    just a thought.

    oh i meant in general not dvds just doesnt work with anythingg

    perhaps then you just have a bad channel on the amp then. you can test it with a volt meter, red to positive and black to negative and see if any voltage is output, if 0 volts, no power at channel = bad amp, if voltage present, then you have either a bad speaker wire or bad speaker, but you mentioned speaker works, so either wire or amp.
