Go here and update your firmware. Download "1.F3" version firmware: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2005 Also, try a different brand of media.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONSE!!!! I downloaded the firmware and updated. It records again. But only at 12x and the burner and media are capable of 16x. Any further ideas?
To be honest, you really do not want to burn anything faster than 4X. (Unless your using top notch media such as the Taiyo Yuden brand)
This is crazy... even now I have the famous Taiyo Yuden media and I would never dare to go beyond 8X. 4X is the recommendation speed and it's the safest. Try other hiqh quality media such as genuine Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim and Maxell (Made In Japan) for your next DVD burning.
Okay...Thanks for the advice.... But I am curious...Why not burn at 16x if the media and burner allow it?
@temj Unfortunately, no. The max I've ever done is 8X only -- even if my burner is capable of burning 16X with Taiyo Yuden, I still don't want to risk getting a coaster.
If the speedometer in your car says "160 Mph", is that how fast you drive? lol Burning to fast can cause various errors and horrible playback such as freezes, stutters, skips, or has some pixelation. Cheap media is poorly manufactured around the edge of the disc, hence the reason why it mostly skips or freezes from the middle toward the end of the movie. The slower you burn, the better it will turn out. I have 16X rated media and 16X rated burner but, I still burn everything at either 2X or 4X. Edit: alkohol - I have burnt several TY disc's at 16X for testing purposes only. There was no problem at all when using authentic TY disc.
@temj How would you rated (or what's your results on) burning at both 4X and 16X using genuine Yuden media by scanning using Nero CD-DVD speed or other scanning engines? I'm curious that's all.
How would you rated (or what's your results on) burning at both 4X and 16X using genuine Yuden media by scanning using Nero CD-DVD speed or other scanning engines? I'm curious that's all. They are both the same. Here is a TY disc burnt at 16X: Here is a TY disc burnt at 4X:
Great looking burns. It pays to have great media, and really it doesn't cost any more than cheap media in most cases.
