ive read through many threads, but still just dont have the info i need... sorry for the silly questions..

I've just got my dvd burner and label maker/applicator... but i dont have any software.
I want to take avi files, convert them into whichever files needed to burn onto a dvd, and then also make labels/stickers etc...

    my questions are:

What is an easy to use software to convert avi to the appropriate dvd file?
What is the best software for burning the file to dvd?
I have the blank labels/stickers & an applicator, but where do I get the pictures to print the design on them(so they look like real movies)? and is there a software i need for that?
Also, where in the whole process do you make the menu for the movie so you can navigate through it on dvd? and do i need software for that ?

BTW, i am looking for free softare for all the above if its possible.

I found some of the above already, but couldnt get it to work. I had a 700mg movie, converted it to a dvd file ( I think ) , then burned it to dvd. But the dvd did not work.

    vso's dvixtodvd

for avi's which have been converted, you will need a app that will burn TS folders,
i use clonedvd2,but you can use nero also

[bold]SORRY TO TELL YOU THIS,BUT YOU HAVE WASTED YOUR MONEY....DO NOT STICK LABELS ON BLANK DVD'S[/bold]

try using TMPGenc DVD AUTHOR,or nero vision express

you are not asking for much are you,
do you want it gift wrapped,or shall i just leave it in the bag???

if you search around, you would see lots of peeps agree with this :)

the labels that are stuck on the disk, effect the balance of the disk,(amongst other reasons),which can cause them not to play properly

you are better off with printable disk's,and print the labels on instead

ok, so tell me if this is accurate...

I take a avi file, convert it with divxtodvd.
Then I can use clonedvd2 to burn it.

where in the procees do i use TMPGenc DVD AUTHOR?

im starting with a downloaded avi movie btw.

yes,if you get the free version of vso'dvixtodvd, then the result will be a TS folder, which contains video/audio folder
    just ignor the audio folder

if you get the "pay for" version, this has a burn engine, which will burn the file for you

    ahh,i see
i only use TMPGenc DVD AUTHOR for my mpeg's

try using nero vision express, this will convert multiple avi's and give you the option to add a menu,

personally i dont add a menu,
i only put 1 film on a dvd anyway, and i use "the film amchine",with CCE engine,(2 pass)as this gives the best quality
