I have been reading these forums for over a month now and I had just perfected the rip/ifoedit/burn technique on ALL movies even multi-episode shows and the rare double disk DVD-9 to double disk dvd-5
My back-up’s played on 75% of set-tops & PS2’s – Then comes along DVD2ONE Sounded too good to be true but I wanted to give it a try because movies that are 4.5 – 5.5 GB drove me crazy making a double disk.
First off, I am a quality freak or audio/videophile so when I compressed superman S.E. 156 min down to one disk it looked fine on my TV & 800X600 computer res but on my 1400 1200 laptop screen you could notice a big loss of quality…So I was thinking that I was going to stick with my old technique but then when I was playing it on a older set-top I noticed that the disk played considerably better E.G. no chapter skipping or de-resing when fast forward/rewinding. (I am curious as to what makes the disks more stable then IFOedit) So I tried the disk on some players that wouldn’t play my previous disks and most played fine.
This left me with a few choices:

A. Stay with the old Technique and lose time/compatibility/sanity but no loss in quality

B. Convert to DVD2ONE and have max playability save time/$$$ in disks but lose quality.

C. Split movies over 120min with ifoedit and then use DVD2ONE to process those files for two disks with max playability and quality (I was worried DVD2ONE would still use it’s compression agent because I have seen DVD2ONE compress a 3.8 GB stripped movie to 3 GB)

I conducted a test: I ripped superman main movies files (file mode DVD decrypter) split (without stripping or re-creating IFO’s) this with ifoedit then processed each of the dirs as a single disk with DVD2ONE; Total file size of both disks 6.3 GB I then Ripped superman with stream processing leaving only the ac3 audio: total file size 6.3 GB Viola! No quality loss. Even though DVD2ONE might not be the ultimate answer to high quality single disk backups, it gets my vote as the Best DVD processing tool out there. I would like an option to turn off all video compression and just process the files and maybe a simple default “play” menu to defeat Xbox’s and older set-tops limitations.
