alright, i'm totally lost here. i used river past video cleaner to convert my .MKV files into avi. (because VirtualDubMod wouldn't decompress the audio?????) (also it didnt copy over the subtitles) they were in two parts so i now have two avi files now. (with what i'm guessing a considerable loss of quality as the files were originally 800mb and are now 250??) anyway, thats done now. now if say i happen to come across the subs on the net somewhere how would i get them onto the avi files? would i first have to join them? please advise. least amount of re-encoding as possible please. as i dont want to lose two much more quality. havn't checked yet, but im guessing it looks like sh.. now thanks is advance RavenLife
If the mkv contained subs, you can demux them with mkvextract. Joining would depend on what kind of subs they are. If you want to hard encode the subs, you should do it the first time you re-encode the mkv. Also if the video is VfW then you can demux it to an avi using mkvextract, then you just need to convert the audio.
thanks for the reply i tried mkvextract couldn't get it to work kept getting (filename).dll was not found. even tried it with the gui i've deleted the mkv now i downloaded the subs in ssa format. its in two parts so no need to join. gunna search the forums for how to's now thanks again
