Apologies if this is in the wrong place. I have recently discovered that I am able to burn at 12x on Datasafe 8x DVD-Rs, using a Pioneer-109. I have not found any errors or problems so far on any DVDs. I use Nero 6, and it detects the maximum speed as 12x, I don't change anything, it just automatically comes up. I'm just wondering if there is any problem in doing so, such as future errors on the disks, damage to the drive etc.. Thanks
I've never used Datasafe, but I'm willing to bet that it's not that good. Switch to something more reputable such as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. Fuji and Sony are fine so longs as they are made in Japan. And burning DVDs, most here will tell you that it's best to keep the speed below 4x. You can if you want to, overburning shouldn't do anything to the drive.
@xilla Datasafe uses alot of different manufacturers - some crap - some good. Here's a partial list: CMC, Princo (both horrible), Prodisc (iffy imo),Ritek, MCC (both good). Depending on who the manufacturer is will determine on if you'll have any issues/errors now or later. With good media like the MCC I would burn 8x max on a 16x burner. Run one of those discs thru Nero Tool Kit and post back the manufacturer id.
Yep - unfortunately those cmc mag's are the pits. Cut your losses - stop using them at any burn speed and pick up some Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Fuji or Sony (last 2 look for made in Japan). When I used the cmc & princo I burned at 2x - still had to redo them due to degrading.
Only one problem - I still have about 40 left. Meh, they were cheap anyway. I'll buy some better ones tomorrow. Do you have any idea why Nero allowed me to burn at a speed higher than the max speed printed on them?
Believe me - dump em - wish I would have. Had to redo them anyhow. Hey at least they were cheap! Depending on your burner and firmware some media even though rated 8x say can burn as high as 12x and 16x. I would not recommend burning at max speeds though- increases chances of errors.
