Hey new to the site and so far I have to say that you guy are a godsend. I'm hoping someon can answer this for me. Trying to watch some rmvb files on my computer, I have realplayer and VLC. How do I bring up the subtitles on the screen of what I'm watching? So far have not been able to figure this out and it's starting to get annoying! Someone help PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!
VLC is the video lan media player, I also have the core media player if you're more familiar with that. The type of sub files are .idx or.sub files. As you can tell I'm not sure even which type is the sub file
yeah....u're rite...i'm more familiar with the core media player...i've used that core media player player b4 but it's not as good now. (I mean, I personally think that Windows Media Player is a better one as from my video viewing experience.) All right!...the .idx extension and the .sub file is not a subtitle file at all. If u wanna know about the .sub file, u can check out the the definition on the glossary section. It's a basically a clonecd image file, something like that. While the .idx extension, i yet to know wat is that. Let's get down to what u're lookin for! Currently the subtitle file that i know is either an ssa file or an srt file. On the common usage of this subtitle file, u'll need to hav Vobsub(a programme that runs the subtitle file when u play ur video file on Media Player Classic or Windows Media Player). Well, there are other subtitle software, but i'm familiar with the Vobsub. After all, everything that i mentioned above may not be of much importance. This is the part u hav to know. Since u're asking about playing rmvb file with subtitle, i so happen to hav some experince with this file format. U've mentioned that u're using realplayer. From my experince, real player isn't what i prefer to use to view real media files ( .rm and .rmvb file). This is due to the loading which is way too slow when u try to drag to the middle of the movie. So in fact i found out that there's this Real Alternative codec that eventually allows u to play ur rmvb files on Windows Media Player. Wow, this is much better than realplayer file that there's less lagging when u drag to the mid of the movie. In fact, i found out that u can actually play the subtitle file when u're playin the rmvb file. For example, u hav a rmvb file named Lost.rmvb and then u hav a subtitle file named Lost.srt, then when u play the Lost.rmvb file using Windows Media Player (U must hav Vobsub to allow the subtitle file to autoload when u play the movie). I hope what i hav written could help u out. Do u mind to tell me what movie or drama is ur rmvb file? I might b able to get the subtitle for u.
idx/sub = vobsubs. But yes sub is also the subchannel component of a Clone CD image (ccd, img and sub) as well as a text (MicroDVD?) subtitel format. There was I think a 3rd party tool for muxing subs into rmvb files by the AutoRV9/10 developer otherwise rmvb files can only do subtitles via scripting.

Too bad, i don't know any site that could provide the subtitle file for anime. Even i myself is lookin for anime subtitle file. In fact, all of the anime uploaded for download has the subtitle merge into the anime video file. Unlike the movies, Eng TV series and Asian dramas which these people prefer to subtitle using .srt file rather than merging that into the video file. If what u're lookin for is other than anime subtitle file, than i'll b able to give u the website that provides subtitle file. Mayb u shud download dragon ball series wif Eng subtitle via bittorrent!!! That's all i can help. Juz to let u know, the chinese torrent websites eventually provides almost all of the video files in realmedia format which is in smaller file size but good quality as compared to other video formats provided by Eng sites. Haha...it's only u know how to read chinese words that what i said will b of benefit. By the way, i haven't watch Dragon ball for very long time oledi and not really interested into that. But i can recommend to u a great anime that i'm currently watching and is ongoing, "Bleach". I know it's old one of my fav's though, and I needed to redo it as I have really lousy quality rm's. You'd be surprised to know that this IS A bittorent file that I got it from, the only way I found is was as rmvb files, because of Funimation's pull of all other forms of it. I've heard nothing but good things about Bleach, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
does someone have a website that have asian drama subtitles? About srt file, how can I write a srt file? I've already downloaded VobSub.
This is the only site which i know have asian drama subtitle. http://www.d-addicts.com/forum/index.php The subtitles are in srt file. If u wanna write subtitle file, one that i know is the "Subtitle Workshop". I don't have any experience with that programme. So u have to look for the guide yourself. I hope what i can provide u is of much help. I would be able to tell you more if i do work on the subtitles myself. Since the subtitles can be easily get from the internet, it's convenience and there doesn't seem to be any subtitles that i need to do it myself.
If you want srt's and you have vobsubs, then you can OCR the idx/sub using SubRip or similar. Either should playback fine though via mplayer or Media Player Classic. VLC doesn't support playback of propriatary stuff like real video 9, cook audio, etc. Real Player might work with directvobsub.

May I ask, Is it possible to convert an Avi Dragonball Episode File that contain non-English subtitles to English? I read abt adding, editing, converting, But can the subtitle language in an Avi file be converted to English? How is it done? or do I hv to extract/open up the Avi file to some other formats and merge/download separate Dragonball Z subtitle file or remerge to another format? so far, i hv not found such resources from my googling.. I had no idea what subtitile language of the Dragonball Avi file I downloaded is. Its not English for sure Pls enlighten me
hy...i find ur messages very helful but i have a Problem...I want too, to open subtitles with rmvb files...I done every thing i instalated Real Alternative..and VobSub too..but when i want to open a subtitle I get the following answer:That I must change the video render and reopen the file...it tells me too something about Direct Show Shockvawe and real player too...what should i do...pls help..10q a lot
Media Player Classic's internal sub render requires VMR7/9 renderless if that is what you mean? Got nothing to do with directvobsub though.
my suggestion would be to download something better like either VLC or the Core Media player, with VOBSUB either one of these work better than Windows Media Player, be it the classic or either, the Core Media Player is probably the easier to use. To play .rm or .rmvb files as asked above download and install the real alternative codec, that should be able to play anything that you could think of
Three swparate ways to have subs in .rm(vb) files: NOTE: all require Real Alternativ IMPORTANT: before installing RealAlt you MUST uninstall Real Player (will not work anyway) NOTE2: Subtitles file has name exact as movie, extension is appropriate for subtitles format. 1. open file in player supporting subs (Bestplayer etc.) 2. Media Player Classic: Options > Playback > Real Media Video > (choose) DirectX 7/9 Can now (auto)load subtitles 3. Installed DirectVobSub: just change extension from .rm(vb) to .avi (not convert, just change filename), DVobSub will load subtitles automatically. 3rd way is the only that works in Windows Media Player.
