Hello All, I've been handed a rather interesting project at work. We need to master video DVDs for use in computers as well as stand alone DVD players. I get to figure out the best solution to our problem. I know now, thanks to catfreak, that changing the booktype will make DVD+R's virtually 100% compatible. We currently have a Sony DRX-800UL and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the Sony DRX-800UL is capable of changing the booktype field (either through standard or hacked firmware)? If not, is there a list of burners that do support this capability? I'm looking at the BenQ DW1640 and it looks like a pretty good burner. Any thoughts are appreciated! - Brian
I'm not sure about that model dvdrw but the sony DRU-800A is a rebadged lite-on SOHW-1693S and will work with the lite-on booktype utility. Here's a link to the utility and there is also a link to a usage guide on that page. http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=83441 Give it a try and then use dvd identifier to verify whether or not booktype to dvd-rom was successful. http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/ You can only booktype dvd+r (not dvd-r) media to dvd-rom.
It should be the Sony external version of the Liteon SOHW-1693S. The newest firmware is here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2074 Booktype bitsetting can be done through DVD Decrypter or a Lite-On utility: http://www.liteonit.com/ODD/English/e_downloads/e_utility.asp
