You could try updating your firmware. Your drive seems to be a rebadged Lite On 1633s. Sony doesn't provide any support for this drive.

    Go Here: http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A

Get the BYS3 version. You also need the LtnFW Utility to perform the firmware update, available at:

    http://upload.cdfreaks.com/ftools/LtnFW.zip.

These are crappy media...buy better quality ones such as Verbatim and/or Taiyo Yudens or any brand [bold]Made in Japan[/bold]. It looks as though your burner doesn't like those discs with the current firmware...

Enabling DMA for your hard drives and burners would certainly help in burning/encoding...Have a gander here to help you make the changes...

    http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking DMA.pdf

On the page where you can select your desired audio streams, edit start/end frames...on the bottom right, you can change the how close to the edge it could burn. Burning too close to the edge could result of you not being able to view your dvd. Try lowering around to [bold]4360[/bold].

That's all I can see for now...

    - 4459MB is far too close to outer edge of disc. i can't remember how you change this setting in Recode to 4300MB - ie further away from outer edge of discs and not sacrificing much space

    - EDIT OUT your serial number

    - firmware's old, BYS3 is here - http://dhc014.rpc1.org/indexOEM.htm#DW-D22A

re that question mark, see next paragraph

    - DMA needs to be ON. these are nvidia drivers so i think you just reinstall the motherboard drivers..if that doesn't work we may have to do some more fiddling to get rid of the nvidia drivers and get the Windows 'atapi' drivers installed

    - hmmm, that second line is odd, Recode was saying it was gonna use 4459MB. i'd address all the other problems and we can come back to this later if it's still showing this error

    - oh my God - not CMC Mag (CMC Magnetics) discs again, some of the worst, most atrocious utter rubbish DVD media on sale, and you bought them!. There are 7 links in my signature detailing the reasons not to use anything manufactured by CMC. use decent media - that's in my signature too.

    - splat!

    Also....

    - Is that Maxtor disc on a SATA port then ? (sorry i'm not too au fait yet with all this new-fangled SATA stuff).

And....to me the jumper settings look all wrong on the other 4 devices -
    - to me they're all conflicting.

This is what the port numbers are supposed to mean -
Port 0 ID 0 should equate to Master on the Primary IDE controller
Port 0 ID 1 should equate to Slave on the Primary IDE controller
Port 1 ID 0 should equate to Master on the Secondary IDE controller
Port 1 ID 1 should equate to Slave on the Secondary IDE controller

Look again at youe devices, unless i'm reading it wrong, it looks like the drives are setup incorrectly, ie you seem to have 2 Masters on the Secondary IDE controller and 2 Slaves on the Secondary IDE controller. i'm confused..

I did find this somewhere -
    - if that's true, that would be fine for anything connected to SATA ports, but the other devices i think would still need to have jumpers set correctly..Again i may be wrong here as i'm not up to speed on SATA motherboards...
