Just backed up a movie and burned it onto a Verbatim DVD+R DL DVD. Worked perfectly in my Tosh DVD player, but my Xbox is not recognizing it. Does anybody know, which, if any, DL DVDs will work in the Xbox? I was going to use these to back up some of my larger Xbox games as well, but apparently that isn't going to work. Just wondering if the DVD-R DL DVDs would work.

All of my other backed up movies, both on DVD-R and DVD+R, have worked fine in my Xbox.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

I am not familiar with booktyping. I used Nero, and did it as a DVD Video. Is "Booktyping" just a matter of selecting DVD ROM instead of DVD Video?

Sinc the DL DVDs are still about $3 a piece, I really don't want to experiment with them. They work in my DVD player, just wondered what type of DL DVDs people have used successfully in their Xbox's.

If I am off the mark on the booktyping, please let me know...

    Thanks.

What burner do you have, I can tell you if it's booktyping capable, or you can search it yourself. Older DVD players ,especailly Xbox and PS2s can't read teh -/+ format so you change the booktype into DVD ROM which is teh universal format.

You should be able to booktype w/ that burner. What are you using to burn your movies.

You can jsut got to k-probe.com and read up on some stuff there about booktyping. or you just tell me what you are using.

I am using Nero 6.6. I'll check out k-probe, but any info you can provide is appreciated also.

So if I booktype when I burn the movie, it'll still play like normal in my stand alone DVD player, as well as possibly in my Xbox? I have been backing up movies for a long time, just never heard of booktyping.

    Thanks again.

I did check my booktype settings in Nero, and they are set to automatic, which is what k-probe says to use. I tried putting the disc in just now and doing disc info on it, but for some reason it won't pull it up, so I can verify it is DVD-ROM. Looks to me though, like it was already burned with the correct booktyping, unless I am missing something. Is there another way to confirm?

Well, my PC was falking out on me, but I finally was able to run the info tool on the movie backup I made. It did come through as a DVD-ROM. So, is that the end of the road? Is the xbox just not going to work with these DVDs? Kind of looks that way, which sucks, because I wanted to backup a couple of the longer Xbox games with them, but if the system won't read the disks, that isn't going to work...

    Hi Nihilist2,

Have you tried reading a DVD+R DL disc in your xbox? Some machines don't like to read the -R DL discs, I think it's to do with the fixed break point in the disc. You can always burn the disc using DVD Decrypter (You can specify booktyping, intstead of trusting nero to do it for you).

Maybe the new xbox will be able to handle DL discs better.

The disk in question is a DVD+R DL, not a -. The disc is showing as a DVD-ROM, so I think Nero is doing that part right. Sounds like the Xbox just won't work with the DL disks, as I have used DVD+R and DVD-R single sided disks without issues in the past. Oh well, the Xbox 360 comes out in a few weeks, now I can use this as an excuse to get it...
