which type dvd's to buy

    What is the difference between dvd-R and dvd+r dics you buy, will both work in a Panasonic that's 2 years old? thanks for any advise..Ed

    You really need to consult the manual to see what fits. In general, dvd-r is more compatible with dvd players, especially older models.

    i've always used dvd-r and for the most part, you won't run into too many compatibility issues with those. if you can, i would booktype your dvds to make them appear as a regular dvd-rom to your dvd player. this will make them almost 100% compatible with anything. you should find out if your drive is able to booktype. i'm sure you can find all sorts of posts relating to that on this forum.
    anyway, i would say dvd-r is more compatible than dvd+r, so buy some nice taiyo yuden dvd-r's from supermediastore.com

    If I am not mistaken you can only booktype + format discs. Whether or not - is more compatible than + format is debateable. I have had nothing but trouble with - format & had nothing but success with + format.

    i beg to differ on the format pluss or minus . the +r format plays on more standalone players thain the -r at least on older players. most of the newer players will play both.

    DVD+R hands down..!! Yep, that's right.. DVD+Rs for me all the way, especially book typing them into DVD-ROM (the universal dvd format).

    Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim or Maxell DVD+R book type as DVD-ROM = play in all dvd players = top notch media = longevity = free of worries.

    Plus format/High quality for me so I can booktype them. My booktyped backups kick a** compared to my dash backups!

    If your burner has the bitsetting capability to booktype: Definetely the plus format.

    If no bitsetting capability: Then you'll have to try both the plus and dash and test those backups in all the different stand alones/game consoles/and pc drives that you plan on playing them in.They will tell you which format they prefer,or you'll get no disc inserted errors in them. Just make sure it is quality media.Some of those stand alones don't like the crappy manufacturers.
