So what in peoples opinion is currently the best method for backing up DVD-9 to DVDR... in terms of time required and quality of encoding?
I have been using DVDShrink for a few years now, (occasionally I also DVDDecryptor and DVD2One) but the days of IFOedit, etc. seem such a long way away.

yeah. i'm not going talk about one being the best, i'm just going to tell you what i prefer.
1)dvdRB-pro with HC($10, no more/HC free)and copytodvd to burn. but this is only when i'm willing to deal with the 3-5 hours it takes RB to encode a movie. whole movie.
2)shrink or recode(same quality at this point)and Imgburn to burn. whole movie.
3)dvd2one and copytodvd for main movie-only, great quality and fast.
    there you go.

Using clonedvd2 and anydvd,my rip and burn time is around 8 to 15 min on the rip, most movies, burn at 8x around 9 min 4x at 12 min,so total time is around 26 min..using aa jims 166s for the read and using a liteon 1693 or a hp-420 8x burner
