After using Nero 6 and 6.6 successfully to burn movie DVDs, I upgraded to Nero 7. It seems to work fine except for one fatal problem, when I trim excess footage from the ends of a file (not the beginning), the file gets larger, not smaller. In fact, files get so large that they exceed th 4.38 gig limit, even when I choose "extended play" mode. For example, an 80-minute film should fit easily on a disc in "standard play" mode. However, after trimming the excess off the end, the film jumps to 5+ gigs. I called Nero tech support and was advised to uninstall Nero 7.00 and download Nero 7.01 (or 7.1--whichever number is the latest). I did that, but the problem persists.

Does any have any suggestions for fixing the problem?

Probably because Nero re-encoded your video, and used a larger bit rate ("Mbps") than your original video. Your original video files are VOBs, I assume? Which Nero application are you using to trim the videos?

Thanks for replying. I don't know what VOBs are. For a year, I've been recording MPEG-2 files with my ATI tuner card. I used Nero 6 and 6.6 to burn more than 500 DVDs, and I'm following the exact same procedures with Nero 7's Nero Vision 4. When I bring up an MPEG-2 of a film that easily fits within the 4.38 gig limit at "standard play" or "long play," the file size suddenly enlarges to 5+ gigs when I trim someting off the end. Trimming from the beginning doesn't seem to have an effect. Weird. As I said, I spoke to a Nero tech support person but had trouble getting him to understand what I was talking about. On his suggestion, I uninstalled Nero 7.0, which I had installed with a factory CD only a few days earlier, and downloaded and installed 7.0.1. No change in its behavior. If I can't get this fixed, I'll reinstall Nero 6.6.
