hey, not sure if this is in the right section but here it goes.

im trying to merge to avi files together.

    im currently using this guide.
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/virtualdub_join_avi.cfm

however when i come to opening my files it comes up with this message
    ERROR
"couldnt locate decompressor for format "xvid" (Unknown)"

"VitualDub requires a video for WINDOWS (VFM) Compatible codec to decompress video. Directshow codecs, such as those used by wmp, are not suitable"

so how can i overcome this so i can merge the two avi files, so that i can burn them onto dvd

I had the same problem once. Download "FDDSHOW" from the software section here. It has the codec I think you need to merge those two files together. You'll probably have to play with the settings to get it to work, but that should take care of your trouble, it did for me anyway.
