I have recently purchased a Sony DCR-HC42 and I was wondering if it is possible to bring sound into the unit VIA a soundboard. I am going to make a DVD of a local band and I would like to have the sound come in from the soundboard and not the microphone on the camcorder. Is the A/V jack on the side of the camcorder 2 ways (audio in and out) or is it out only? The instruction manual doesn't really hit on that at all!! Any help is appreciated!!

If your camcorder accepts input (he only way to know is to test it) you can use both the A/V (analog) or DV (digital Firewire port). If you use the DV port, you will have to put the sound into an AVI file (even if there is no video in it).
