My mom comes home the other day and says "hey, its now a law that cell phone companies have to give you the unlock code for your phone." I can't find ANY proof of that online, and obviously forums like these would probably be all abuzz with such info if it were true. So I am just checking. I have cingular so they'd rather put a contract out on my life than let me unlock my phone, even after my two year contract is up and they have supposedly recouped the "loss" they took on giving me my phone at a "discount". So has anyone else heard this rumor?

I think your mom is getting confused between unlocking and unblocking.
