i just want to copy my dvd collection to my computer its more or less to back up in case i lose the dvd disc themselves is there a program or software that will allow this?

Hi, welcome. There are a couple of guides in my signature that I recommend. I use them both and have had great success doing my backups. I don't know how many movies you are talking about putting on your HDD but they take up anywhere from 3 to 9 gigs each. They will take up lots of space quickly. There are some great free programs for backing up DVD's at this forum and at the sites in my sig. Good Luck.
