I've looked everywhere for a way to connect my xbox running xbmc to the internet, is this possible? I know you can bridge it to your computer or use a router, but I just want to be able to plug into the internet socket and use the xbmc scripts. I'm at college and I know people can connect to xbox live by just plugging in.
I just plug it in with my router and it works great. Music Video's, net-radio, movie trailers, weather and RSS feeds. If you have a router, just set the settings on xbox to DHCP and you are golden.
Is there any way to do this without a router? We are not allowed to use them here. Although, I don't see how they can keep track of that unless you connect with multiple devices. But I don't have a router here anyways, so i was hoping maybe there was some settings I could just change.
I don't know how to set it up static. Or with a bridged connection. Try these http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics ------ICS http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=249179 ----ICS in Zonealarm(or other firewalls) http://www.chefelf.com/xbox/networking.php ----Best networking guide for xbox out there!! by chefelf Hope those get you going, also XBMC gets its network settings from your dash, so if you use evox, make sure you set it up there and it will carry over to XBMC. Why can't you use a router there if I might ask.
Okay, I finally figured it out!! I am plugging straight from the xbox into the wall and connecting to the internet!! The problem was that I was still using a CAT-6 crossover cable and not a standard CAT-5. I also made changes to my IP to match my computer's settings. Thanks for all your help. BTW, I am not completely sure about the reasoning behind not being able to use a router, but when we registered our internet it strictly prohibited any use of a router of any kind.
yeah that's weird.....anyways all you wouls have to do is conect the xbox straight to the modem and set the xbox IP to DHCP and it will work like a charm. If you are using another dash as your main...you might as well set that up to use dhcp as well. If you are using unleashed or avalaunch....since they have online functions just set the dash up as DHCP and then in the XBMC settings just set it up to use the dashboard settings and you'll be fine.
