    Hello all,
    I am trying to make a backup copy of a 3 hour movie. Usually with a smaller time frame I can do this with no problem whatsoever.But movies such as Private Ryan, Casino, Rose Red, this takes up a lot of space on a 4.7gb and I have trouble with freeze ups with these movies.
    Usually I use my CloneDVD2 to make backups. If not I also have Decrypter,and Shrink with Nero. I do not know how,or even if it is possible to have one movie put on two diffrent disks,in part 1 and part 2 forum. But these freezes are a a monster for me ever time I attempt it. I Thank you in advance for any help that you can give me.

    ive never had any problem with long movies except for the quality. ive used the same apps. ur using with success. first i would make sure u r using good media like verbatim,ty yuden,sony or maxell. i would also make sure i had the latest firmware for my burner. i would also recomend for long movies to use dvd rebuilder and cce. there is a forum here that deals with these two apps. if all else fails officemax has dl verbs on sale right now.

    Skips/freezes are usually because of burning too fast and poor media quality. How close to the edge are you burning? You shouldn't go beyond 4300MB.

    OK gamename I am using Maxell for this particular movie I am now trying to backup. But I also use a on sale disk from Officemax that is fair in quality (good enough to copy back from anyway)called HyperMedia.
    Glueeater I guess I am going to the jumping off point of the disk. I am going right up to the alloted edge of the disk alot,now that u mention it hmmm? Very Interesting.
    Any advice?

    Reduce your target size to 4300 mbs. You media also may not be made by quality manufacturers. Maxell uses different one. Run the maxell and hypermedia (not known as good media) thru Nero Toolkit and post back with the manufacturer id.
    Also as gamename said make sure your firmware is up to date.

    Circuit City had a "Great" deal on both SONY DVD - & + R disc media $8.99 for a 25 disc pack. I think SONY makes the best DVD media available through retail stores.

    In cloneDVD2 you will see a box that says DVD-5 and it has a drop down arrow. Click the arrow, select Custom and type in the targe size that you want. I use 4360 as my target in CloneDVD and have great burns.

    Media is important. Maxells are good.

    In CloneDVD it is not necessary to reduce the size, Clone already takes that into consideration automatically and does not burn to the edge if you look on one of your Clone burned disks you will see the gap left.

    @arniebear

    What does the Clone log say the target size is when utilizing the DVD-5 setting? I have not looked to see if it says anything about it at all, and am not at home at present to check it out.

    I do think that the clone log is not at descriptive as the decrypter log however.

    I have not experienced burn errors either way in cloneDVD though. I wonder what the difference in compression would be?

    I have really never looked at this, so I guess I have to check. But I was reducing my size in Clone and noticed I really had a larger gap left then when I used Shrink. Did some research and there was a thread over at CD Freaks, where someone asked the same thing, and Olli the developer of Clone just stated that the reduction is already in the program and when you put in another size it reduces it further. So now I just leave it at default and it is the same as if I used Shrink at the reduced size. Just one of lifes mysteries I guess.
