If the Divx5 file size is NOT an issue, is it possible to generate a Divx file that has a video quality the closely idential to the original DVD? That is, I don't want to settle for less quality at all. I am a newbie and have not used any of the DVD-to-Divx tool, so I am not sure if this is doable. I Don't like the way DVD breaks file into chapters (many files) and playing back from one title to another will introduce a 1 sec hesitation... Divx is just one single file easy for portability... I don't plan to use CD disc to store Divx. I just want to know if one can convert a DVD movie from DVD format into an MPEG4 format without or with negligent quality loss. I hope someone could help answer the following questions: (1) Can the compression rate be set to any arbitrary low value? Is it possible to set compression rate = 0, or 1 (like no compression or very low compression). That goal is just to convert from DVD to Divx (2) What is the MINIMUM compression rate one should choose before any noticeble quality loss will be obvious (with very critical eyes) Thanks.
I'd go with XviD and encode at constant quant 2 with a decent CQM. That will give you about the best quality possible. You could do a similar thing with DivX 5.x, but you are stuck with h.263 as your quant matrix.
