Hi, I'm having problems with burning any discs (cd or dvd), regardless of the brand (tried Verbatim, Sony, TDK and Fuji), type of disc to be burnt or filetype. All sessions end immediately after the burn process starts with the same error message. I'm running Nero 6.6.0.13 on WinXP Home SP2. Following is the log of my latest burn attempt. hi and welcome.. - not too bad, latest 6.x version is 6.6.0.16, up to you if you update it, it's not causing your problems here - i believe this is a Ricoh drive. if so, version 1.03 of your firmware is here - http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1815 You need to update your firmware as your burner cannot recognise tyhe blank discs you're using, see further down the reply - try to close down more programs prior to dvd work/burning to free up more memory - the burner can't recognise that disc properly, here's an example (not the best example as it's CMC but it's an example) of what it should look like - - you should have a 3line paragraph describing the disc when the firmware recognises the disc; your discs must be newer than your firmware knows what to do with. update your firmware - see previous comment
Thanks creaky. I updated the firmware via the link provided without any problems. I actually tried that before posting here but for some reason the update via Fujitsus homepage refused to co-operate. Oh well. CD burning is working just fine now but still no luck with DVDs. Is this just a compatilbility issue between my drive and the type of blanks I'm using? New log below. let's see exactly which discs you have there, download dvd identifier (free) - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_identifier.cfm and use it to 'identify' one of those discs, pasting the results here

OK, apparently it is a compatibility issue. I bought some Fujifilm 8x blank DVDs and it's burning fine now. Interesting to see that what is supposed to be a "standard" is not a standard after all. Never been a fan of class action law suits but this is starting to pi** me off in several ways... Oh well, off to try and find some 4x Verbatim disks which provided me with a 100% success rate previously. Thanks for the help [bold]creaky[/bold].
