any idea's why this is happening?,i'm using XP home, and after making an AVI from a DVD,i do property's on it to check file size, and it does not pop up,instead my computer locks up,and DR.Watson is running in the task manager...

otherwise a clean system,no other problems apparent, and avi's and xvid playback works perfectly...

This can happen when using WinXP SP2 and earlier versions of the DivX codec installed - these are not SP2-compliant.
Only the newest DivX codecs work with SP2.
The error is just like you describe: right-click > properties > waiting...waiting > locks up > explorer.exe error in Event Viewer, Dr.Watson etc.
I have installed ONLY Koepi's XviD when I re-did my WinXP, and it's all you need. It is free, it encodes, and it plays back (decodes) everything incl. all DivX :^)
LoL - dunno andmerr, why does anyone? Perhaps to serve up ~200 movies from a 200GB HD on a LAN? Or to backup DVD to a CD (and take to the cottage)? It is a trusty format for archival storage... kinda like a ZIP file for movies, y'know?
