I've tried backing up dvd's with dvd shrink 3.2, dvd decrypter, Nero 7(trial version), IBM RecordNow!, and Intervideo windvd creator on my T42p with a matshita uj-812 dvd burner and Memorex DVD-R's. I've wasted about 15 dvd's trying diffent things, and I've only backed up 2 disks successfully. Decrypting them doesn't seem to be the issue, but I can't figure out what's wrong. I already spent a small fortune on my IBM because I thought it would be a reliable machine. Now I'm considering getting an external burner because I'm so frustrated. Attached is one of the errors I received. Anybody have any ideas?

I cannot offer much advice on logs , you are using the latest Nero, burning at slow speed, not a lot of free memory and I suspect poor quality medium. May I suggest, to save you$$$$ purchase some RW discs, this way you can use them over and over until you perfect the art of burning. Cheers, hopefully Creaky will be along soon.

This is probably most of your problem. Stay away from memorex media.

    Doesn't like the media.

    Shutdown some background programs.

thank you gwendolin and mort81. as far as shutting down background programs goes, do you have any suggestions on how best to do that? i don't really have a lot of programs open while i'm burning and i'm not sure why my computer runs so many background processes. is there a program that will prevent processes that aren't necessary for security or stablity from running automatically or starting up automatically, or do you usually go through and shut everything off before you burn? because i don't know anything about programming, i am a little afraid of shutting down something that will then cause windows or my other programs to malfunction. thanks, again.

You can click start, click run, type in msconfig, click ok, click on startup, click disable all, click ok, reboot. After your done burning go back in and click enable all, click ok, reboot.

I would try some better media such as verbatum, taiyo yuden, maxell, sony mij, fuji mij, (mij = made in japan), or branded ritek ridata as this will probably solve your problem.
