Ripping DVDs and Compressing Them To About 700MB

I want to rip a DVD onto my hard drive and compress it to about 700MB.

Is this possible.

I've had a look at DVD Shrink but I don't think it compresses DVD's to that size.

I think I want to convert it into an AVI file.

Can anyone help.
