i wasnt sure which thread to put this in shrink or nero cause i simply dont know which program causes this to happen.so i just put it in here cause im still fairly new to burning dvds, ive only been at it for a couple months now.anyway to the problem at hand.i use shrink to encode, rip, and compress if need be,then i use nero 6.0 to burn.the last 4 dvds i backed up ive notice that in the first 15 mins of the burnt copy theres pixilation problems and it tends to freeze for a few seconds before resuming play, but then after that 15 mins it plays flawlessly.the movies i backed up(tombstone, half baked, kiss of death, charlie and the chocolate factory) were all brand new dvds fresh out of the plastic.i scoped them out no scratches or anything that looked like the discs themselves were damaged, likewise on my burnt copies.why are they pixilating and freezing up sometimes in the first 15 mins, then after that playing just fine?this has never happened before, all the other copies ive been burning have been great.
Don't you just hate it when things just stop working the way they use to. What you need to look at is has anything changed recently like: 1)The media or hardware you are using? If so check out the DVD Media section to see if it meets the grade: http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/47 2)Have you increased the burn speed? If so try backing down the burn to 4x or 2x to see if it solves the problem. 3)Are you compressing the movie more then you had to with the others? The more you compress a movie the better the chances are the quality of the movie will degrade as well the likelyhood of hangs and freezing. 4)Are you trying to do anything else on your PC while trying to back up a movie or do you know of any background processes left running like your virus scanner? It is always better to shut down as much as possible since even if you have a superman of a PC, encoding pretty well chew up the clock time of your processor and memory. Things like shutting down your network connection and virus scanner can go a long way besides just leaving the box alone while it's encoding. 5)When was the latest time you did a bit of maintance on your PC like cleaning up your temp files, defragging your Hard Drive, scan your pc for spyware or viruses. A little TLC on your PC can go a long way in resolving problems. Something else you can try if none of the above seems to fit or resolve the problem is when you are about to let Shrink rip go to the quality settings once you hit on Backup and go to the Quality Settings and check the box for "Perform deep analysis before backup to improve quality". It will take a bit longer but should help improve the quality of the final product. Regards,
I've tried a few but I mainly use Verbatim DigitalMovie DVD-R's. So far the only coasters I have had with these have been due to my own fault. As far as burn speed I use 2x to get the best burn. I have burned these at 4x without seeing a problem on my home decks. However I have seen problems on other family members decks so keep it at 2x to eliminate the pixelation and hangs on theirs. Really does not take that much longer and get a quality DVD as an end result.
