Well I would like to burn my DVDs at the slowest setting possible but the lowest I can go on SLs and DLs is 2.4x. Is this up the the media I use or is it up to my burner? I thought a burner can technically burn as slow as you want it to. So if it is my media that sets the speed I can burn what is a good SL and DL media that would let me burn at 1x or slower? Thank you.
Why do you wish to burn so slow? I back up everything at 4x with no problem. I don't think burning slower than that will make a difference.
I'm extremely picky with my quality and I noticed the slower I burn the better the burn comes out. When I started burning I was burning at max and my DVDs would always be messed up and the DVD player would struggle to play them. The slower I burn the better they come out and work for me.
Depends on your drive manufacturer and firmware. I have a memorex burner in another pc, and due to firmware/drive issues, it only burns 6x as the lowest in Nero, but DVD Decrypter will let me set any burn speed. Have you tried using DVD Decrypter for the burn and setting the speed there? Also i agree with hogan, 4x other than DL media is the slowest you should have to go to get perfect backups. Media being used, and other system issues are probably whats going on. If you have nero info tool, or a nero burn log, post it, but edit out your serial number. I bet you have system issues going on. We can get you burning at 4x if you post a log, and follow the advice given by members. Why take 4 times as long or longer to get the exact same results?
Certainly quality is to be considered. I have not found the difference in a 2.4x burn to be noticible from a burn of 4x. Could be my eyes, but I doubt it. Media quality is important as well. You will be able to obtain better quality if you use better quality media, (you did not say what you are using, so I don't know), but if you stick with Taiyo Yudens, Verbatims, Maxell's (MIJ), and look for the sales you will be able to maintain very good duplications.
