I am trying to burn files ont a dvd-r with 4x speed. Everytime I try to burn, I get a "reset" error. I have tried another dvd, which was a sony dvd+rw and for some wierd reason It worked with that. Anyways here is my nero log I get after the reset error. If anyone can help, please post some advice. thanks in advance.

Wow, your firmware is so freakin old it's not even on the list at the firmware site. Here is a link to the current f/w, the newest one is 2.FA:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1906

Your DMA is off, here is a guide by [bold]Alkohol[/bold] that was so good that I decided to copy and paste:

((To enable DMA back ON by "uninstalling" it's driver “for Win XP users”))

    A) on "DESKTOP" right click on "MY COMPUTER", left click on "PROPERTIES"
    B) left click on "HARDWARE", left click on "DEVICE MANAGER"
    C) left click on + sign of DVD/CD-ROM Drives
    D) double left click on your DVD burner or your dvd-rom drive
    E) left click on "DRIVER", left click on "UNINSTALL", you will see a "Warning: you are about to uninstall this device from your system", just click "OK", now "SHUTDOWN" or "restart" your computer
    F) once you restart your computer, Windows should automatically detect your DVD burner’s drive and re-install it for you. That's it...easy as smoking!!

NOTE: do these steps only if the above process failed to bring DMA back on, or you can do exactly like the above steps, except this time you "uninstall" it from the “IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers”

    (A) left click on + sign of "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers"
    (B) double left click on either Secondary or Primary IDE Channel (burner's driver are usually "Secondary Channel")
    (C) click on "DRIVER", "UNINSTALL", "OK" and then "shutdown" or "restart" your computer. That's it... easy as smoking!!!
***NOTE: you have to know where your "DVD Burner" or "DVD-ROM drive" is installed to what Channel). Usually it's the "Secondary IDE Channel" because your "C: drive or Hard Drive" would be the main aka Primary IDE Channel already. If you're not sure, then you need to check it with "Nero Toolkit" first before you "uninstall" any of them. Once you verify with Nero Toolkit, then you can continue with the above steps.

You are writing too close to the edge, write no further than 4300MB, change it.

You are using really bad media, I suggest either Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim. SOny and Fuji are fine but only if they are made in Japan.

    Try that and good luck

Thanks so much for the reply.

I just downloaded the the 2.FA firmware and when I double click it, it says "Targe NEC ND-3500A is not found correctly"

for the dma part, I have both dma's turned on for primary and secondary ide.

    === Scsi-Device-Map ===
CdRomPeripheral : TDK CDRW121032 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On
    CdRomPeripheral : TOSHIBA DVD-ROM SD-M1302 atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On
    DiskPeripheral : WDC WD2000JD-00GBB0 02.0 viamraid Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off

The WDC WD2000JD is my western digital 200gig sata hard drive.

Also my dvd burner is connected with a usb2.0 cable, that is why its not showing up on the same ide ports.

    thanks in advance.

Because your firmware is so far behind, you may have to start with the oldest version listed at the link, updating to it first, and getting that one to take, then try the latest version. Had to do it that way with my lite-on. I call it the Progressive firmware update method. PFUM kinda sounds like puff em. AD site highlites it, but the term means something else here.

Yeah I've heard of that happening, do what MaxBurn says.

And it doesn't matter that it's just your HD. It still needs to be on DMA, or else it'll rip really slow. And becasue it's so slow there migh actually be errors if you decide to multi task, or so I've heard.
