DL disks are usually used to make an exact backup copy of a pressed (commercial) DVD. The usual procedure is to use DVD Decrypter to do so as follows.

Set the Mode to ISO Read and rip to the hard drive.
Set the Mode to ISO Write and burn to the blank double layer media.

It is important to make sure your burner's firmware is up to date and that it is capable of booktyping +R DL media as DVD-ROM. Many standalone players will not playback burned DL media unless booktyped to DVD-ROM. Using -R DL media is not advised because it cannot be booktyped.

If you want to place multiple disks on a single DL DVD you must use a reauthoring program to create a DL iso image file for burning. You'll need a menu to seelct the title. Nero Vision Express, TMPGEnc Author, etc. can all be used to do this. Personally I wouldn't waste a DL disk. Why not just backup one of your disks fully with an exact copy.

It would be cheaper to just burn 2 seperate single layer disc. Rather then burn 2 on 1 DL disc.

If your backing up a DVD that is DVD9 then all you need to do is use DVD Decrypter.

To rip to hard drive MODE/ISO/READ

    Then to burn MODE/ISO/WRITE

You wont have to send it threw DVD Shrink or any recoding program. DL disc is DVD9

When you have decrypter open and a blank disc in the drive click on tools>drive>change booktype. Then select the media and select the change to and click change.

    Good to to.

An iso file is a disk image file so only one to a customer. To combine "ISOs" you must use a reauthoring program and combine into a single iso.

As to changing booktype, one would probably do that for all +R media (+R, +RW, +R DL) as long as the burner's firmware allowed doing so. When you change the booktype, there are two choices: one says temporary and the other doesn't. The one that doesn't is "permanent" and will always booktype that type of media until you change it again. The temporary is only for that burn. There isn't much point to temporary imo.
