shrink and imgtool not recognizing new burner

#1 15 Nov 2005 @ 13:56
I just installed a nec 16x dvd burner in my desktop but dvdshrink and the img burning tool wont recognize it. The burner works, I have been able to use it with dvdxcopy express to burn movies just fine. I unistalled and then reinstalled all of the programs with shrink: nero, img tool and shrink v3.1 but that didnt help. Anybody else have any ideas for me? Thanks

Hi, welcome.

The laest version is 3.2.0.15. Get it here:

You might also want to get DVDdecrypter. Works great in harmony with shrink.

Thanks for the advice 9mmruger1. But I downloaded the newest version of shrink and it still wont recognize the new NEC burner. I do use dvddecryptor but I'm just plexed at why shrink isn't doing what I want it to do.
Here is my set-up: I have an 8x external dvd burner that I've used for awhile now and it always has worked fine with all of the programs like shrink, xcopy, decryptor, etc. I installed the new burner into my desktop, making it an internal drive of course. Dvdxcopy express will burn using the new drive and shrink will open a disk put in the drive but shrink will NOT show it as an option to burn to. I tried with the external burner on and off and shrink still wouldn't use the new drive to burn either way.
Can anybody help me get shrink to burn using my new 16x nec??

You won't see the burner in DVD Shrink because shrink does not have a burn engine or an option to select a drive as a target.

DVD Shrink does recognize your drive or it wouldn't open the disc.

Once you've modified the contents of the disc you are backing up, you must select one of three options. #1 ISO image file. #2 ISO image file and burn with DVD Decrypter. #3 ISO image file and burn with Nero.

If you select #2 or #3, the appropriate prog will open and begin the burn provided there is a blank disc in the drive. If you select option #1, you must open the prog you want to use and then track down the ISO image that you want to burn.

LOCOENG,
Under backup> Target Device> Select Backup Target mine shows my burner and this is what I think he is talking about.

dgrooman ,
Go to Device Manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI Contollers and expand that
Now look under the secondary IDE controllers and make sure the burners are recog.
You also might want to uninstall them ( right click) and then re-boot and let Windows properly reinstall them.

Oh...OK...I thought that he was just trying to burn with shrink. That target device could be misleading as your just directing the appropriate program to the appropriate drive.

dgrooman - Go here and follow both steps. After doing that, you should be able to see your burner (You need Nero installed though) - http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44871

Do you have a skinning program such as WindowsBlinds installed on your PC?

car.mike: that is what I was refering to. I checked the devices and they were both good.
temj: I followed those 2 steps and everything is working properly now!! It seemed the version of Nero I had was the culprit. Thanks for all the help everybody

jessica: You might try updating your Nero program, that is what solved my problem. Read over this thread
http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44871
and follow the link for the Nero update. Good luck
