You can't just change your eeprom. Sure you can open it in notepad and mess around with it, but the eeprom is an actual chip in your xbox. If you are wanting to replace the stock hard drive you must generate a key from YOUR eeprom to lock it with. The key needed to lock a specific hard drive will be different for every xbox according to its eeprom. There are several key generators out there, I recommend "xboxhdm", although it is a DOS utility.

Hey guys got a few questions regarding HD and eeprom. I am trying to get a new HDD
and Eeeprom in my xbox (for undisclosed reasons) I have a friend who has an old xbox he
is willing to sell to me for like $40 (cant complain) I told him I would need the HDD and
Eeeprom. This is where the problem occurs. I can probably install the HD (I will FTP the
original HD contents to my COMP) then I will install the new HD fromk my friend, then FTP
the contents back to my new HD. But when it comes to installing it what programs and or
tools will i need? After that is where I get confused. I realize that the Eeprom itslef is a
chip on the mother board and it is controlled by a .bin file. This is where I need help.
How to get the eeprom? Whether i need the chip itself or the .bin file? How do i get the
chip and or the .bin file from his unmodded xbox? And then how do i install it on my
modded xbox? I have an xecuter 3 chip, Proswitch, Stock HD (10GB), LCD screen, 2 Usb
ports, thompson disk drive, Unleash X, XBMC. ANy info would be very helpful!!!

    Thanks :)

You actually have it backwards. The eeprom chip builds the eeprom file not the other way around.
A great tool for building a new hard drive is "Xboxhdm". Just google it.
