Hey guys, I recently purchased some Sony DVD+Rs and tried to burn some movies onto them. However, everytime I try to burn a DVD, it goes up to 93% and then fails. I never had this problem before, when I used memorex DVDs. Any suggestions to solve this or reasons for this is happening would be much appreciated! Thanks for all responses.
What software are you using? What is the brand, model number and firmware version for your burner? If you use Nero, post the last section of the NeroHistory log that begins with your name and serial number 1A...., omitting the name an serial number from the post. The path is Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory. Are you burning the same files each time or does the problem persist with all files?
Here is the log file of the burn that I used with my Sony DVDs...I hope it helps Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Files from HP Drive\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 5:35:34 PM Nero API version: 6.6.0.16 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Files from HP Drive\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 16b Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 200j> Version: 1.72 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.16 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : WDC WD800AB-22CBA1 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : HP DVD Writer 200j atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : LG CD-ROM CRD-8485B atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off === CDRom-Device-Map === HP DVD Writer 200j E: CDRom0 LG CD-ROM CRD-8485B F: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 83886080 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 767MB (785904kB) Free physical memory: 230MB (235980kB) Memory in use : 69 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 12.11.2005 NeroAPI 6:13:51 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation started 6:13:52 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 6:13:52 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 6:13:52 PM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 6:13:52 PM #5 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer HP DVD Writer 200j running 6:13:52 PM #6 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 6:13:52 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 6:13:52 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 6:13:52 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 6:13:52 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 2286111 (508:01.36, 4465MB) 6:13:52 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO 6:13:52 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: HP DVD Writer 200j, Media type: DVD+R 6:13:52 PM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 6:13:52 PM #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2286112 (2286112) = #2286112/508:1.37 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2286112 blocks [HP DVD Writer 200j] -------------------------------------------------------------- 6:13:52 PM #15 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [HP DVD Writer 200j] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Nero API version: 6.6.0.16 Nero 6 is up to 6.6.0.18 now. Your HP burner is probably a Ricoh 5125A and the firmware is here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=318 The latest version shown is 1.72 which is what you already have. I did find other complaints about this burner and Sony media by googling. Sony +R media is made by Sony, Ricoh, Taiyo Yuden, and MCC, all excellent or good manufacturers. Try a different brand like Verbatim or Maxell (made in Japan labeled) and see if the problem persists. As 9mmruger pointed out, you may be burning too close to the edge where the dye gets thinned and the disk fails. Target size for a DVD5 should be 4.35GB or less.
A couple other things that need addressing. This isn't your problem but DMA should still be on. Here's a guide. http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/107928 Writing too far out on the media. Set the target size to 4350 give or take a little.
