Hey guys, I recently purchased some Sony DVD+Rs and tried to burn some movies onto them. However, everytime I try to burn a DVD, it goes up to 93% and then fails. I never had this problem before, when I used memorex DVDs. Any suggestions to solve this or reasons for this is happening would be much appreciated!

    Thanks for all responses.

    What software are you using?
What is the brand, model number and firmware version for your burner?
If you use Nero, post the last section of the NeroHistory log that begins with your name and serial number 1A...., omitting the name an serial number from the post. The path is Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory.

Are you burning the same files each time or does the problem persist with all files?

What speed are you burning at?

What did you set your target size at?

    Nero API version: 6.6.0.16

Nero 6 is up to 6.6.0.18 now.

Your HP burner is probably a Ricoh 5125A and the firmware is here:

    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=318

The latest version shown is 1.72 which is what you already have.

I did find other complaints about this burner and Sony media by googling. Sony +R media is made by Sony, Ricoh, Taiyo Yuden, and MCC, all excellent or good manufacturers.

Try a different brand like Verbatim or Maxell (made in Japan labeled) and see if the problem persists. As 9mmruger pointed out, you may be burning too close to the edge where the dye gets thinned and the disk fails. Target size for a DVD5 should be 4.35GB or less.

A couple other things that need addressing.

This isn't your problem but DMA should still be on. Here's a guide. http://dvdxcopy.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/107928

Writing too far out on the media. Set the target size to 4350 give or take a little.
