hey all. for a longtime ive been trying to backup some dvds. but they dont play on my xbox (cant read it), and do on my computer. i recently figured out why but now ive got another problem (i was putting them on as data). ive followed this - http://www.k-probe.com/rip-shrink-dvd-decrypter-tutorial.php which didnt seem to work, it still doesnt play on dvd players, but does on my computer. ive got dvd decrypter, shrink and nero which sucks because i can only burn data dvds, i think. can someone please post a link to some other post that would be useful in taking me through the process i need to follow to copy a dvd. both dvd5 + dvd9 onto a dvd5.
You could have searched yourself you know? But nevertheless... I think this is b/c it's an xbox. They (some) can't play DVD+/-R so you have to book type it to DVD ROM, which is the universal booktype. And here are some guides, they will take a while if you have dial-up however: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/tutorial012.html This one is for Shrink's preferences: http://www.dvdplusvideo.com/tutorial002.html These will take a while if you have dial up however.
Here's some more guides: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/index.html Dvd-5 original to dvd-5 backup: Dvd decrypter using Mode ISO read to hard drive/Mode ISO write-locate that mds folder and burn. This mode is for no compression. Also very effective backing up dvd-9's onto dl media.Very easy and quick, but no compression is performed so it's a 1:1 copy! Dvd-9 to dvd-5 single layer: Dvd shrink or dvd decrypter to rip/dvd shrink will have to compress/ and burn with dvd decrypter/nero/or copytodvd. For dvd decrypter to rip,it has to be in File mode, then compressed with dvd shrink. The main thing with dvd shrink, you have to get your settings right. I use nero6 to autoburn with dvd shrink. Open up dvd shrink Edit Preference File I/O: Tick enable burn with nero if using nero to burn, untick it if not. Now on your backup options just after you click the backup tab after re-authoring or full disc: The target device page pops up,you'll want to set up your select backup target as your dvd-rw drive and make sure there's a check mark on burn with nero. You'll have other options like ISO images and hard disc folder. You want your burner set to the backup target. This area of the program can be confusing so you'll have to check it out in the guides. There's lots of combinations of using these programs.I find it easier and faster by ripping with dvd shrink and autoburn with nero and it works on over 90% of the original movies. This eliminates the dvd decrypter ripping step. These programs do have trouble with the newer sony releases,so you'll have to have other programs to get through them. Now on that x-box,it sounds like a compatability issue. What is the brand name and model # of your dvd-rw drive? Dvd-rw drive only or dual drives? What is the brand name/format/and speed rate of your blank media? Which version of nero do you have? You posted a kprobe site which is associated with lite-on drives,i'm just not sure if you have a lite-on dvd-rw drive or not.
thanks heaps. ive tryed a few things from the links glueeater lol sent me. no luck yet, there were no errors and i think it should have played. ill try that dvd on an actual dvd player instead of the xbox. "I think this is b/c it's an xbox. They (some) can't play DVD+/-R so you have to book type it to DVD ROM, which is the universal booktype." i dont fully understand this, how do i booktype it to dvd rom? and whats b/c? my dvd drive is a Liteon 16X DVD Dual Drive with Double layer writing i dont know the model # (cant find it), if its the same as the serial number then its 476443006512. im using TDK DVD+R 4.7gb 1-8x data/video dvds. and i have Nero express 6 in an oem suite. just checking out those the site now saugmon, looks good so far
Your litey is capable of booktyping the plus format. My link to that site no longer works, but there is a utility you can download from the Lite-on site for the booktyping.Keep that in mind because the booktyping helps in cases that stand alones/game consoles/and pc dvd drives to be able to recognize backups. That may help your x-box and it's always a bonus to have extra dvd players to test your backups on..Some of them do have trouble with backups, usually because of crappy media/format/and even burner quality. The k-probe test also works with liteys and you can use it to scan the errors on your backups. Nero can be flaky at times. Here's a program to completely rid all remnants of nero off your pc: http://ww2.nero.com/us/Nero_6_Clean_Tool.html You'll want to remove nero with that tool, then download it again and make sure you leave out the INCD packet. That packet is of little use and can mess us up. TDK plus format is of questionable quality.Media quality is critical not just to successfully burn, but those stand alones magnify the problems of poor quality by:Bad playback or no disc inserted errors on your backups. C-Magnetics is the majority of the supplier for TDK plus format-Cmags for short. This is a lower quality manufacturer so keep it in mind.Buy some good stuff next time like Taiyo yuden/verbatim/Maxell/and japanese sony-fuji +8x.Quality media will prevent a lot of issues. Give the guides a good look. You may even want to print them out.Just double check all those settings I listed earlier.Any questions, just come on back. Good Luck danielbra!
